Bidhannagar City police started a case against BJP leaders — Joyprakash Majumder, Locket Chatterjee and Subhash Sarkar — for allegedly violating Section 144 recently, in front of Bikas Bhawan, the building which houses state Education department.
The trio has been slammed with charges of obstructing on-duty government employees and unlawful assembly at restricted zone under Section 144.
However, the BJP leaders alleged that police framed the cases against them.
Bidhannagar (North) police started an investigation.
Vice-president of state BJP Joyprakash Majumder, secretary Locket Chatterjee and general secretary Subhash alleged that the recruitment process of primary school teachers in West Bengal via Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) was faulty and that some corrupted leaders are involved in it. The recruitment process of primary teachers via TET was challenged at the Calcutta high court recently.
However, the state Education department has instructed the district primary boards to bring out the merit list to get rid of any controversy. The process of providing appointments to the successful candidates of TET examination is underway and many have already got jobs in different districts. Earlier, the state government committed to provide employment to thousands of youth via TET.
Although the recruitment process was on hold for some legal deadlock, the Calcutta high court directed the state government to release the result of TET in the middle of last year. However, Opposition parties were trying to bring the corruption involved in primary teachers' recruitment to the forefront.
BJP, Congress and Left Front started agitation once the recruitment commenced.
"The area in and around Bikas Bhawan is declared restricted under Section 144. No organisation can stage demonstration there," confirmed a police officer.
It may be recalled that the state government took this decision to restrict the assemblage of any mob after repeated incidents of agitation in front of Bikas Bhawan, which hampers the working atmosphere.
