Primary accused held in Karaya murder case

Kolkata: Police have arrested a person identified as Md Ismail, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Md Abdul Rafique (60) that had taken place at Karaya on October 29. The accused is a resident of Tiljala Road.

A team of city police raided a place situated near 4 number bridge in the wee hours of Saturday in connection with the case and arrested Ismail. The investigating officers were keeping a tab on him for the past two days after the incident took place.

Police said that the accused has confessed his involvement in the murder. During interrogation, the accused told the police that Rafique had feelings for his wife and the former had also warned the victim of dire consequences.

The accused later hatched the conspiracy and carried out the murder on October 29 when the victim was alone in his house.

The victim, who was a resident of Tiljala area as well, was found lying in a pool of blood by a local resident.

During preliminary investigation, police found several injury marks around his neck. They also came to know during investigation that Rafique was one of the owners of a 7 cottah land in Karaya area.

The accused and the victim had jointly handed over the plot to a promoter, where a multi-storey building would come up.
