Presidency to confer degrees to students from today
Kolkata: Presidency University (PU) will hand over degrees to graduate, post-graduate and PhD students from September 19 to 28. A notification in this regard was issued by the Controller of Examinations of the varsity on Tuesday.
In the wake of student agitation in the campus over demand of Hindu Hostel, the convocation of the varsity was shifted from the campus to Nandan III, in which only the DLitt and DSc degrees were conferred at a short half an hour programme.
The convocation programme was held on November 11 and the varsity had announced that the degrees will be handed over personally to the students later.
"The degrees will be awarded to the students from their respective departments and students will have to furnish their proof of submission of convocation fees. If any candidate fails to turn up in person, he/she will have to authorise somebody in proper format, who will have to produce fee receipt for the collection of degree," a senior official of the varsity said.
According to the notification, if anybody fails to be present during the above mentioned period, he/she can collect their degrees from the office of the Controller of Examinations on and from October 9.
It may be mentioned that a day before the convocation on September 10, a section of students prevented Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia and Registrar Debojyoti Konar from entering the institute's campus, by putting the main entry gate under lock and key. The two were compelled to return home.
The agitating students demanded immediate accommodation in Hindu hostel. They had been agitating over the same issue at the administrative building of PU from the first week of August.
