Pregnant woman beaten up for protesting against eve-teasing

Kolkata: A pregnant woman was beaten up by some miscreants after she protested against eve-teasing.

The incident took place in Ramdhari area under Baruipur police station in South 24-Parganas on Monday. The victim has been admitted to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The woman, a resident of Ramnagar, was returning home from a nearby place when some local youths hurled abusive languages at her.

The victim told the police that three youths were riding on a motorcycle when they suddenly stopped her. They made indecent gestures to the woman. As she protested against the incident, two youths got down from the motorcycle and beat her up.

It was learnt that a local who came to her rescue was also attacked by the miscreants. After being alerted by the screams of the victim, some locals rushed to the spot.

Miscreants, however, fled the spot before the locals could reach.

The woman received injuries on various parts of her body. She was taken to Baruipur Sub-divisional hospital by the locals and is being kept under observation.

The family members were also informed.

They lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which police started a probe. Police are yet to arrest anybody in this connection

so far.
