Power dept ensures uninterrupted supply

Kolkata: West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) supplied uninterrupted power not only to the Puja pandals but to every household under its jurisdiction during the festive days.

A sudden rise in the demand of power supply was addressed by the WBSEDCL during the Puja days. The state government-owned agency, WBSEDCL also penalised Puja organisers who had indulged in illegal power consumption.

Senior officials of the divisional offices of the WBSEDCL inspected around 6,747 Puja pandals throughout the state till Ashtami, out of which 2,400 Puja committees have been penalised. The agency also realised around Rs 47.69 lakh from such committees.

To ensure uninterrupted power supply around 1,450 low tension mobile vans had been deployed round-the-clock to ensure that there are no power faults in any part of the state. As many as 735 mobile vans were deployed for the maintenance of HT feeders on an emergency basis. The power demand in their distribution area on Maha Saptami was 5,100 MW including Puja load.

According to a statement issued by the WBSEDCL, till Shashti, the WBSEDCL had provided 26,670 temporary connections to Puja committees throughout the state. For temporary connections, 402.8 MVA extra load demand was met. The WBSEDCL also realized Rs 12.46 crore as security deposit from these Puja pandals. The demand for power in the WBSEDCL area stood at 5550 MW on Shashti. To ensure better customer service, around 1,450 low tension mobile vans had been deployed for uninterrupted power supply. Senior officials of the power department visited the Area Load Despatch Centre of the WBSEDCL and the State Load Despatch Centre (Salt Lake Unit) of the WBSETCL and reviewed the situation in the state during Shashti evening.
