Pool car falls into pond; children & driver rescued

Kolkata: A pool car with as many as 13 children on board fell into a pond at Baksara in Howrah on Tuesday afternoon.

All of them were, however, rescued by the locals. The vehicle broke the wall guard on the side of the pond and went straight down in the water.

According to the police sources, it was carrying students of a private school from Howrah, Dhulagarh. The incident took place on Chandmari Road.

Locals informed that the road is very narrow, and when the driver found another car approaching from the opposite direction, it tried to offer some space.

In the process, it lost control and went straight down in the pond. The students were trapped inside the car. Some locals, who are experts in swimming, managed to rescue the children and fish them out of the pond.

The driver was also pulled out by them. They sustained minor injuries but all are safe.

Police along with the fire department officials rushed to the spot and found that the passengers of the vehicle were already rescued. A crane was pressed into service to pull out the pool car.

The guardians of the students have been gripped by a sense of fear after the incident.
