Police recover huge cache of firearms at Chandannagar
Kolkata: Chandannagar Police Commissionerate has recovered a huge quantity of firearms including four short and long range guns which are manufactured in the Ordinance Factory.
According to police, several raids were conducted in Rabindranagar area in the past few months and more than 30 criminals were arrested with firearms.
Approximately two months ago, police came to know about some notorious criminals who had gathered at a ceremonial house. When a police team went there, the criminals fired several rounds at them. Following the incident, police conducted multiple raids in the area and arrested 26 persons.
After interrogating them police came to know the whereabouts of several other criminals who were arrested later and a substantial number of firearms were seized.
On Sunday, police came to know about a few other criminals who were also hiding in the Rabindranagar area and conducted a raid. During the raid, two criminals identified as Prasenjit Saha alias Tukna and Bhagna were arrested.
During search of the premises where the duo was hiding, police recovered a huge quantity of firearms including a 7 mm and 9 mm pistol along with a carbine which were manufactured in the Ordinance Factory.
Police administration in Chandannagar is quite worried as the criminals have the access to sophisticated and lethal weapons. It is suspected that some of the employees in the Ordinance Factory are connected with an arms smuggling racket. The other country-made firearms are procured from Munger in Bihar.
