Police mull Tejashwini workshop every month
Kolkata: Police is mulling to conduct self-defence workshop for women, titled Tejashwini every month after receiving a good response in the last three editions.
On Wednesday Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Anuj Sharma stated that he had earlier instructed that such workshops should be conducted once every three months.
In May 2018, Tejashwini was conducted for the first time to teach women techniques of self-defence. The second edition of Tejashwini was conducted in November 2019. After Sharma took over as CP, he sought information on the workshop.
After he found that the response in the earlier editions was good, he instructed that the third edition should be conducted soon. Following his instruction, the workshop was conducted from March 4, which was concluded on March 8. In the workshop, the women have been taught how to resist a sudden attack and buy time before help arrives.
On Wednesday the closing ceremony was conducted at the Police Athletic Club, in Maidan where the workshop was arranged.
Actors Abhishek Bachchan, Chitrangada Singh, MP Mimi Chakraborty and film director Sujoy Ghosh were present in the ceremony. While addressing the 'Tejashwinis', all of them encouraged them and appreciated the initiative of the Kolkata Police.
Sources informed that during the five-day workshop, the CP had visited the venue and was surprised to see the overwhelming response. Later he instructed senior Kolkata Police officials to conduct 'Tejashwini' once in every three months.
"At present, the workshop is being conducted once in every three months. We are mulling to conduct the same every month as the response is very good," said Sharma.
During the closing ceremony, a few women who took part in the workshop showed some techniques which they had learnt. Also, the women combat force known as the 'Warriors' and the special women police force, known as the 'Winners displayed their physical fitness.
