After 25 days of having gone missing mysteriously, the police have found the Dalit student of Jadavpur University from Mecheda station in East Midnapore on Monday.
Sushil Mandi, the M Phil student, went missing mysteriously on February 2. His friends had claimed that he went missing after a member of the pro-Maoist United Students Democratic Front (USDF) posted, on a social networking site, allegations against him of molesting another student of the varsity.
Badana Varun Chandra Sekhar, Deputy Commissioner (South Suburban division), said: "We have found him at Mecheda station this (Monday) morning. He has been brought to Jadavpur police station and we are trying to know what had actually happened.
He is the only person who can unfold the mystery. Only he can tell where he had been for the past days. Concerned police officers are speaking with him to get the details."
Sources said that Sushil had, somehow, managed to contact some of his friends on Sunday. Police came to know from his friends that he would be coming to Mecheda on Sunday morning. Accordingly, policemen in plain clothes went to Mecheda station.
They found him getting down from a Howrah-bound train and he was searching for his friends when the policemen approached him. They took him along with them and brought him to Jadavpur police station.
Suranjan Das, Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University, thanked the police on behalf of the University for finding him.
It may be recalled that Sushil had left his hostel on February 2 leaving his mobile phone in his hostel room. He is originally a resident of Dhaniakhali in Hooghly and his parents had also lodged missing complaint with Jadavpur police station. His parents have been informed.
Sushil's friends had later lodged a complaint against the students those had posted false allegation on social networking site against him.
Those who had raised the allegation against Sushil had not lodged any complaint either with the police or the university authorities. Sushil's family members and friends raised the question that why they had not lodged any complaint with the police if the allegations were true.
