Police bust firearm manufacturing racket in Jagatdal, five held

Kolkata: The police conducted a raid in a factory at Jagatdal in North 24-Parganas on Monday, where illegal firearms were being manufactured.

Interestingly, local people knew that it was a factory where sweets, mainly laddus, were prepared.

Sources said that the police conducted the raid acting on a tip-off and detained five persons. Policemen in plain clothes went to the factory posing as customers interested in buying firearms.

As a result, they got an easy entry to the portion of the factory where firearms were manufactured.

The raid continued for hours and the police seized a machine that was used to manufacture the firearms.

The police are now trying to know to whom the firearms were being supplied earlier.

They are also trying to know if they had stored the firearms at any other place.

Police came to know that the factory had been running for the past one year, but remained closed for some time. The police are now trying to know if there are any more people involved in the racket.

The police are working to know the detailed background of the five people who were detained in this connection. They are trying to get information on how long they were involved in the racket.
