Poet Srijato meets senior cops, files complaint

Poet Srijato Bandyopadhaya on Thursday met two senior police officers at Lalbazar and lodged a complaint saying that he had been receiving threats in social networking sites.

He also complained that he has been receiving threat calls from unidentified callers. His wife Durba Bandyopadhaya also accompanied him to the police headquarter. They met the senior police officers and discussed the matter with Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vishal Garg. It was learnt that Garg had sent him to the Cyber PS to lodge a complaint. Later, the poet went to the Cyber Crime police station and lodged a complaint. The poet also alleged that his wife had also been threatened.

According to a senior police officer of the city police, a case has been started under Section 506 of the IPC and 67 of IT Act. He said that the police would examine the complaint from all possible angles and may boost up the personal security of the poet and his family members if needed.

It may be mentioned that two days ago, an FIR was lodged against Srijato on the basis of a complaint from a college student of Bagdogra. As per the complaint, the complainant alleged that the poem had hurt the sentiments of some people. The FIR was lodged against the poet under Section 295 (A) of the IPC and Section 67 of IT Act. The whole controversy erupted after the poet had posted a poem on social media on March 19, soon after Aditya Nath Yogi took charge as the Uttar Pradesh CM.
