Plaint against poet Srijato for critising UP CM Adityanath

Hindu Sanghati, a non-political organisation, has lodged an FIR against Srijato, a well-known poet and litterateur for criticising Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Arnab Sarkar, one of the members of the group has lodged an FIR against Srijato with the Cyber Cell of the state police. Sarkar has alleged that the poet had hit the sentiment of the followers of Yogi Adityanath.

Srijato had posted the poem called Abhisap on Facebook. The complainant alleged that through the poem, he tried to propagate religious hatred.

Srijato said after his poem was posted on social media, hundreds of people with "strong religious sentiments" criticised him. "I tried to use logic to explain my stand but they refused to listen to me and used abusive language."

The incident has received a volley of criticism from poets and intellectuals who alleged that "it was an attack on freedom of speech."
