Pervert arrested for molesting Salt Lake minor

Police arrested a person on charges of molestation at Salt Lake's Duttabad on Saturday night. The accused allegedly touched the private parts of a minor girl. The neighbours caught the accused, identified as Pratap Mondal and handed him over to Bidhannagar City police.

Police learnt that the victim, a Class VII student, was playing in her locality when Mondal called the girl to his house. He tried to tempt her by giving some food. The girl was allegedly molested by Mondal, while she was eating the food, police suspected.

Mondal freed the girl from his house while she started to cry. She ran away from his house and reached to her parents. The parents of victim gathered their neighbours before reaching Mondal's house. Mondal was taken to Bidhannagar (South) police station.

After a short interrogation, police arrested Mondal on the basis of the complaint made by girl's parents.

The neighbours, however, questioned the moral character of the accused. "Mondal was not a familiar face in the locality. He was earlier too taken to the police station after he allegedly teased a girl. We hardly saw him speaking to local residents," said a local.

The girl's parents are both working and that becomes a good reason for worries, more so, after such incidents happen. However, the neighbours assured them to protect their child while the couple would go for their work.

"It is our responsibility to protect the girl. The parents of the girl came to us seeking help. We'll be with them always," another neighbour said.
