People throw flower petals on cops during route march as token of appreciation

Kolkata: Welcoming the good work of Kolkata Police, people in Tangra threw flower petals on police personnel during a route march on Wednesday.

According to sources, since the past few days police personnel of Tangra police station have worked tirelessly to ensure complete lockdown. Despite repeated requests, a section of people who were trying to flout the lockdown norms were either arrested or compelled to return home.

After the sensitive places were marked across the city, police personnel were instructed to start route march for area domination purpose. In every area where route marches were conducted, people locked themselves in the houses in fear of police.

But the scene on New Tangra Road on Wednesday morning was quite different, which was not expected by the Kolkata Police officials.

When the contingent entered New Tangra Road, people had gathered on the balconies of their houses and were seen clapping for the police personnel.

Several people were also heard shouting 'Kolkata Police zindabad'. People even threw flower petals on the police personnel, acknowledging their service to the society.

Meanwhile, similar activity by the residents was noticed at Salkia in Howrah as they also threw flower petals on police personnel during route march on Wednesday.

As Howrah has been identified as a Red Zone, police administration there is trying to ensure a complete lockdown. On Wednesday, Howrah City Police arrested 45 persons for alleged violation of lockdown norms and seized 21 vehicles.

To maintain strict vigil in the sensitive areas, drones and CCTV surveillance methods are being used round-the-clock. This apart, police are also distributing foodgrains among the needy people and delivering essential commodities and groceries to houses as per request. On Wednesday, police at Kazipara Crossing painted awareness messages on the road as well.
