Passengers face tough time due to hour-long Metro snag

Kolkata: Commuters were greatly inconvenienced due to disruption of Metro service between Central and Maidan stations for nearly an hour on Friday afternoon.

To cope with the situation, Metro railway authorities ran both Up and Down trains between Central and Dum Dum and Maidan and Kavi Subhas stations.

At around 5.17 pm, the station master of Chandni Chowk station noticed a flash while a Down train was entering Chandni Chowk station. He immediately informed the control and thereafter services were stopped between Central and Maidan stations.

Engineering Department officers and staff attended to the issue at once to identify the problem. The problem was rectified and normal services were resumed at around 6.10 pm.

The snag had affected home bound commuters badly. Though the Metro Railway authorities had run trains from other stations, the passengers found it difficult to go to the next station and avail the train as both state-run and private buses were overcrowded and unable to carry extra passengers.

Meanwhile, due to non-interlocking work at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar Station, Metro services on Sunday will start at 2 pm from both Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash stations, instead of the normal time of 09.50 am. The time schedule of the last Metro train will remain unchanged at 9.54 pm.

The work at the station is scheduled to be completed on Sunday.
