Partha visits 3 colleges to monitor admission process
Kolkata: State Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Monday visited three colleges in North and Central Kolkata, to monitor the admission process. Chatterjee began his visit with Joypuria College and then visited Manindra Chandra College and Surendranath College in Sealdah.
"We will take stern action against anybody found taking money from students or their guardians, for arranging admission in colleges. Admission should be strictly on the basis of merit. Is somebody is found guilty, he/she will be punished and if found to be a party member, the person will be shown the exit door by the party," Chatterjee reiterated.
The minister also spoke to the principals and some senior teachers of these colleges and instructed them to take strong measures to prevent the entry of any outsider in the colleges.
"I have made it clear to them that they should not yield to any pressure from outsiders or any student union representative, when it comes to admission," Chatterjee maintained.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had summoned Chatterjee and some senior party leaders at her Kalighat residence on Monday morning and had instructed them to keep a watch on various institutions, so that there is no demand for any money when it comes to admission. Trinamool Chatra Parishad president Jaya Dutta held a meeting with student representatives from 28 colleges in Central Kolkata on Monday at Trinamool Bhavan. In the meeting, Dutta made it clear that the party will not stand by anybody who will be found extorting money for admission and the police will take strong action as per law.
"Those who have been already arrested will be terminated from the party and if there are allegations of such acts, the party will conduct an internal probe. If found guilty, he/she will also be shown the exit door," said a student representative present in the meeting.
