Partha unhappy with JU V-C's silence on 'attack'

Kolkata: State Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Sunday expressed his dissatisfaction over Jadavpur University's Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das's claim that he will not lodge any complaint against the students who had allegedly heckled him on Tuesday.

"If the Education minister tells the Vice-Chancellor something but he does not listen to it then the minister has nothing to say," Chatterjee said on the sidelines of a programme organised by the All Bengal State Government Teachers' Association.

It may be mentioned that Chatterjee had paid a visit to the private hospital in Dhakuria, where Das was admitted after the alleged heckling on Wednesday and had told him to provide a video footage of the incident so that the administration can identify those involved in the act and take suitable action.

Das, who was released from the hospital on Thursday, has not yet acted in this regard. A section of students were agitating in demand of student election at Jadavpur University and when Das was coming out on Tuesday after the executive council meeting, he was allegedly manhandled by them.

The university has decided to constitute an enquiry committee in this regard. A section of students has gheraoed the administrative building of the varsity since Friday, demanding student election. JU pro Vice-Chancellor Pradip Ghosh has been confined in the building since then.

The state government has made it clear that no student poll will be held before the Lok Sabha elections.
