Parnasree youth arrested for killing aunt
Kolkata: A youth has been arrested for allegedly murdering his aunt in Parnasree. According to sources, the deceased woman identified as Namita Dutta (65), a resident of Rabindra Nagar in Parnasree, was washing utensils used for puja inside a room.
Her husband Phanindra Nath Dutta told police that while he was relaxing inside the bedroom, he heard his wife screaming. When he rushed to the room where Namita was, he saw his nephew identified as Subhasis Dutta assaulting her with a hammer.
Seeing this Phanindra raised an alarm, following which his other family members came to the spot and detained Subhasis. Namita was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital, where she was admitted with multiple injuries on her head. On Friday morning, Namita succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
It has been alleged that Subhasis is an alcoholic and used to drink throughout the day. His family members were disappointed and annoyed regarding the same.
Late on Thursday night, he was handed over to police along with a complaint lodged by Phanindra. Initially police registered a case on charges of 307 IPC (attempt to murder) and detained Subhasis.
After Namita died, he was booked under section 302 IPC (Punishment for murder) and arrested. Her body has been sent for autopsy examination.
Police are investigating the case to find out whether any property dispute or other problem was going on between Subhasis and Phanindra's family. From local sources, police came to know that they had been living in their ancestral house for a long time.
