Our aim is to ensure that Kolkatans get the best civic amenities: Hakim
Kolkata: Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim finalised the departments of his team of Member Mayor-in-Councils and at the same time, made it clear that there should be a single director general in charge of each department under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
"There are some departments with more than one director general (DG). There should be a single DG in charge of a specific department. Our aim is to ensure the best of civic amenities to the citizens of Kolkata," Hakim said, after holding his first meeting with the DGs and controlling officers of all the departments.
A senior official of the civic body who attended the meeting, said the Mayor has made it clear that there should be zero tolerance against dereliction of duty, when it comes to providing civic amenities.
"Everyone should work abiding by the rules of KMC and should try to deliver services to the best of his/ her ability," the official said, quoting Hakim in the meeting.
The Mayor also stressed upon rapid execution of tenders for various projects. "We will hold pre-bid as well as post-bid meetings if required, to ensure that tender process is not delayed," Hakim said.
It may be mentioned that in a number of projects in the recent past, development work has slowed down due to late processing of tender.
The Mayor also instructed the civic body's health officers to find out the reason behind some people getting affected with diarrhea in different areas of the city. KMC has already collected water samples from the wards where there have been cases of diarrhea, but have not found any problem with it.
The Mayor also held a meeting with his team of MMiCs and informed them of their respective portfolios. Hakim will himself hold the charge of Water Supply, Finance & Accounts, Personnel, Grievance, Cultural Affairs, KEIP, License and Building departments.
Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh will be in charge of Health, Amusement and Assessment Collection, while new MMiC Baishwanor Chatterjee will be in charge of Housing, Gitanjali, Law and PPP departments.
The other MMiCs Debabrata Majumder, Debasish Kumar, Manzar Iqbal, Shamsuzzaman Ansari, Tarak Singh, Indrani Saha Banerjee, Swapan Samaddar, Amiruddin Bobby, Ratan Dey, Ram Pyare Ram and Avijit Mukherjee will be holding the same portfolios they held during the board of former Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.
