Orphan raised at Uttarpara home marries, settles in life

"The beautiful spring came and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also," are the lines of writer Harriet Ann Jacob.
And very similar to her lines, the residents of Children's Home in Uttarpara too saw spring but in a different way. Jamuna Mal, a resident of the home was married off today. On Monday afternoon, she tied the knot with Atanu Basak of Lake Town. The ceremony was held at the home under the supervision of the officials.

Jamuna is an orphan and was brought up in a home in Midnapore. Last three years, staying at the Uttarpara Home, Jamuna pursued her sewing training course. The officials took the initiative and found her a groom, Atanu Basak, after inquiring about his financial status and family back ground. Atanu is a young man working in the private sector. His mother runs a PG accommodation at their place. After the death of her elder son, she decided to marry off her younger son Atanu.

The match was fixed after arranging a meeting between the bride and the groom at the home. Once both of them gave their consent, the officials took permission from the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare. Many people and local organisations also came forward making it successful. Ananya Chakrabarty, the Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights was also present in the ceremony.

Thus, the beautiful spring came and the home crafted an enchanting tale of changing Bengali society.
