Oppn on same page with TMC over NRC
Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress along with CPI(M) and Congress were on the same page in the zero hour of the state Assembly on Monday, as they all protested against National Register of Citizens (NRC) and agreed on having a discussion on the issue. Speaker Biman Banerjee might give a date for discussion, which will be decided later. The matter was raised by Left Front leader Sujan Chakraborty in the zero hour of the state Assembly and received support of state Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan. Raising the NRC issue, Chakraborty said that 19 lakh names have been deleted in Assam in the final list of NRC. "I don't know what is going on. I wanted discussion on this issue today (Monday) itself but the Speaker didn't allow us. I would appeal to all the political parties to come together and have a constructive discussion on this issue," Chakraborty said in a press conference later in the day.
Chattopadhyay, who is one of the senior-most members of the ruling TMC, also agreed that the issue is important and it needs discussion on the floor.
