'One Time Traffic Fine Settlement' scheme garners huge response

Kolkata: Kolkata Police received approximately Rs 10.5 crore after 19 days of One Time Traffic Fine Settlement Scheme. On Wednesday, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, Rajeev Kumar informed they have got a great response from people after the scheme

was started.

According to the sources, around 28 lakhs cases were settled. The actual amount of those cases was approximately Rs 30 crore. According to the trend, each day approximately Rs 1 crore is being collected from 26 counters opened in 25 traffic guards and Kolkata Police headquarter at Lalbazar.

"We have got a great response. Expecting that till end of the scheme all the cases will be disposed of," said a high ranked police official of Kolkata Police.

Officials also informed that there is no provision of extension of the scheme.

The scheme is strictly for one time as per the government notification. It was also informed that many people whose cases have been sent to the court want to clear using the scheme.

But that is not possible as it is only for those cases which are not listed with the

concerned court.

Sources informed that on seeing the response, all the traffic guards have been asked to communicate with the vehicle owners which are on the list sent by the Traffic department and ask them to submit the fine and properly inform them about

the scheme.
