One shot at in Madhyamgram while returning home

A youth was shot at when he was returning home with one of his friends at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas late on Thursday night.

Police said that three unidentified youth came on a motorbike and stopped in front of the victim, Ranjan Das, when he was returning with one of his friends. The accused started asking them about their whereabouts.

The victim asked them the reason behind such enquiry. The accused had, however, refused to give any answer to them and asked them to tell their names and addresses.

As soon as the victim told that them his name and address, one of the pillion riders opened fire at Das. They fire two bullets. He received bullet injuries on his waist and chest.

The accused had fled before anyone had arrived hearing the cries of the victim's friend. Local people took him to a hospital in the area. He was later shifted to a private hospital off EM Bypass.

Police initiated a probe in this connection and spoke to the victim's friend who was accompanying him when the incident took place and have also gone through CCTV footages to identify the accused. The police would also speak to the victim once his health condition recovers.
