One person killed due to lightning in N 24-Parganas
Kolkata: One died due to lightning on Friday when there was heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.
A 25-year-old youth, Goutam Mondal, was struck by the lightning when he was returning home. The incident took place at Minakhan Block in North 24-Parganas.
He received severe injuries after being struck and was declared brought dead when taken to a hospital.
There was heavy showers in different parts of the state, including Kolkata since Friday morning. There was thunderstorm with lightning and intense spells of rain in certain parts of East and West Midnapore, Burdwan, South 24-Parganas, Howrah and Hooghly.
Seven persons were killed and one went missing when a fishing boat capsized after hitting a sand dune on river Hooghly in South 24-Parganas. Gopal Das
is still missing.
Most of the people who died were fishermen. The boat "FB Paromita" capsized when it hit a sand dune while crossing the Hooghly river.
The bodies of the seven persons have been recovered while one is still missing. The search for the missing fisherman is still on.
An 11-year-old boy Sheikh Riyajuddin drowned in river Khari in East Burdwan on Thursday.
