One killed, 1 injured after being hit by truck on NH-34
Kolkata: Going for a Facebook live turned fatal for a 17-year-old boy from Murshidabad, who was riding pillion on one of his friends motorcycle.
Police said the victim, Zeeshan Seikh, a BA first year student was riding pillion when a speeding truck hit him. His friend whose identity is yet to be divulged by the police sustained serious injuries in the accident.
According to the police, both the victims were without helmets at the time of the accident.
Hira, a resident of Krishnapur village under Samsergunge police station, had gone for a Facebook live update. Police suspect that the bike was running at a top speed when the incident happened at around 10.30 pm on Sunday.
Police said the deceased along with the other injured person went to a restaurant in Maheshpur area on National Highway 34 to have some food on Sunday evening.
The victim had uploaded the video of having food on a social networking site.
They were returning home along the NH-34 when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind.
Zeeshan and his friend received injuries on their heads and other parts of their bodies. The locals immediately rushed the victims to Jangipur Sub-divisional hospital where Zeeshan was declared brought dead, while his friend has been undergoing treatment at the hospital with serious injuries.
The truck driver fled the spot along with the vehicle following the accident.
Police are conducting raids to nab the truck driver. A probe has been initiated in this regard.
