One held in Kharagpur cyber crime case

Kolkata: The cyber crime wing of Howrah City Police in the wee hours on Sunday arrested a youth from Kharagpur on charges of superimposing faces of some teenage girls with pornographic images and videos at Jagacha in Howrah. The accused Dipayan Chowdhury was produced at Howrah court and was remanded to four-day police custody.
The sleuths had taken up the investigation on the basis of complaints of blackmailing lodged by four college students who had alleged that their faces were superimposed with pornographic images and videos, which were
being circulated through whatsapp
Investigations have revealed that the accused was using a sim of a foreign country for carrying out this activity. The photos of the girls were taken from their Facebook page and then their faces were superimposed with pornographic images. "This is for the first time in the state when a foreign sim card has been used for blackmailing.
He is pursuing a course in multimedia and is an expert in Photoshop" a senior official of Howrah City Police said. It was in October last year when Howrah City Police had arrested a resident of Gopiaballavpur in West Midnapore district for similar charges.
He was living on rent in Sarat Pally area in Domjur and coincidentally that time too the victims were from Jagacha and its adjacent areas. The accused was pursuing his final year course in multimedia. As many as 20 girls had bore the brunt of the cyber fraud.
"We are examining the details of the earlier case to find out whether there is any link between them," an investigating officer said.
