One held for hoarding fake notes worth Rs 92,000

Police arrested a person on the charge of stocking counterfeit Indian currency at Rathbari in Malda. The investigators arrested 45-year-old Mukulesh Mian alias Bhutto on Saturday night. The investigators received fake Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 92,000.

It should be recalled that police arrested a Congress worker on the charge of carrying counterfeit currencies at Malda's Baishnabnagar in February 27. The man was trying to give two fake Rs 2,000 notes to a shopkeeper at a market. The shopkeeper then called up police, doubting the authenticity of the notes. The police arrested him from the market. Police learnt that, Digambar Mondal, a member of Kaliachak-3 Panchayat was earlier arrested on the charge of carrying counterfeit currencies. But he got bail. Mondal had gone to a place called 'Baishnabnagar 17 Miles' at Malda. He entered into local market for shopping. He gave four notes to the shopkeeper and there were some fake notes inside that bunch.

However, after arresting Bhutto, the investigators are confirmed that there is a racket operating here. Police said, Bhutto, a resident of Kaliachak in the same district, was arrested with these fake notes from Rathbari area.

He was penalised under IPC Sections 489B (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes) and 489C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency-notes or bank-notes).

"He was thoroughly interrogated. We have collected some important information from him," said an investigating officer.

It should also be recalled that recently, a Rs 2,000 note deposited by a diagnostic centre in the Bhowanipore branch of Union Bank of India was found to be fake. A team of investigators from Kolkata Police reached the spot soon. They found that Mediclue Research and Diagnostic lab in the Bhowanipore area deposited Rs 50,000 in the bank and only one note of Rs 2,000 was found to be fake.

With a plethora of such cases in Malda and Kolkata, the law and order system across the country must be on their toes to combat such situations.
