One held for distributing fake currency in city, Rs 5L seized

Kolkata: A 20-year-old youth was arrested on Tuesday late night on charges of distributing fake currency

in the city.

Acting on a tip off, officers of the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid in Chandni Chowk area and arrested the person.

Police said the arrested person, Iman Hossain, is a resident of Malda and he had been staying in the city for the past few days. Police received a tip off and conducted the raid on Wednesday night.

Police recovered fake currency worth Rs 5 lakh and the currencies were of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 denomination. Police suspect that he came to the city as a "carrier" to hand over the money to his counterpart in the city.

They have questioned the arrested person to know whereabouts of other members of his racket.

It may be recalled that on May 22, the STF had arrested two persons from New Market area on similar charges and had seized fake currency worth Rs 10 lakh from them.
