One arrested in Malda with fake `2,000 notes

The jawans of BSF, on Monday, nabbed a person and recovered from him fake Rs 2000 notes in Malda.

The accused was handed over to police and they are interrogating him. The person has been identified as Sareful Shah, a resident of Nadia.
The police said the BSF jawans spotted the accused who was crossing Indo-Bangla border early on Monday morning. Sareful started running but was soon overpowered by the BSF jawans.

They conducted a search and found 48 pieces of fake Rs 2000 currency notes. The police are now investigating the origination of the notes and whom they were meant for. The police said they had arrested two persons recently with new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 counterfeit notes from Indo-Bangla border. During investigation, the accused told the police that they had got the money from an agent in Kumillah.

In another incident, BSF jawans recovered fake Bangladeshi Taka worth Rs 8 lakhs from a place under Chapra police station in Nadia early on Monday morning.

Acting on a tip off, a team of BSF jawans of 81BN BSF laid a trap at Mahakola village. They found two persons loitering in the area and challenged them and stopped them. The jawans conducted a body search and found the fake notes. They were identified as Abu Suddin Sardar and Sahid Ali Singh. Both are residents of Chapra in Nadia district.

They were handed over to the police who are conducting an investigation. They were interrogated by the senior police officers.

It may be recalled that BSF jawans had seized Bangladesh currency worth 29, 27, 938 Taka from five smugglers in 2016. In 2017 so far, four persons have been arrested and counterfeit Taka worth 8,12,362 were seized from them.

The BSF has intensified its vigil along the Indo-Bangla border and anyone moving around suspiciously is stopped and challenged by the officers.
