On-duty police personnel beaten up in Joynagar, eight arrested
Kolkata: On-duty police personnel were beaten up by the members of a Durga Puja committee at Joynagar in South 24 Parganas.
On Sunday, while immersion was going on in Moida area in Joynagar, some members of a Puja committee were playing very loud music —above the permissible level.
When the on-duty police personnel asked them to lower the volume, the locals attacked them.
Two police vans were ransacked. Later, a large police force from Baruipur went there and brought the situation under control. According to police sources, the members of a local club at Moida were preparing for the immersion process and multiple sound boxes were being played since evening.
Around 11 pm, Joynagar Police Station was informed about the situation.
Upon receiving the information, a sub-inspector along with some civic volunteers and constables went to Moida and asked the organisers to lower the volume. Following which a few club members started hurling expletives. Soon, both the police and organisers got involved in a heated altercation.

Somehow a constable managed to pass on a distress call to the police station. Within a short period of time, another police van arrived.
