On 10th Convocation, Makaut gives certificates to 150 best students
KOLKATA: Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (Makaut) hosted its 10th Convocation on Friday at Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake where certificates and medals were handed over to around 150 best performers.
Every year, Makaut churns out around 35,000 graduates from its 90 engineering colleges and 110 professional colleges affiliated to it across the state and has been no exception this year.
The university handed over DSc to Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee, founder and chairman of Chatterjee Group at the programme. Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, Chancellor of the varsity, graced the Convocation and awarded DSc to Chatterjee. Anupam Basu, director of NIT Durgapur, was the chief guest.
"Around 30,000 to 40,000 thousands are graduating every year from Makaut and we are taking all possible measures to make our students employable. Steps are being taken to ensure that research works become business-oriented and not limited to patents only," Vice-Chancellor of Makaut, Saikat Maitra said on the sidelines of the Convocation ceremony.
Elaborating on the steps taken by Makaut in this regard, Maitra said they have come up with a digital studio on its Salt Lake campus for creating an online platform that also involves online inspection of the courses and other academic activities taught in its affiliated colleges.
Makaut has come up with 6 nodal centres — five in the state and one in Delhi for holding awareness camps and providing placement assistance to students.
Makaut declared its first chair for School of Engineering Science in the name of Sardar Jodh Singh.
A cheque amount of rupees one lakh was handed over to V-C Maitra by Sardar Taranjit Singh, son of Sardar Jodh Singh and Managing Director of JIS Group.
