NRS doctors remove 10 needles from girl's throat, gives fresh lease of life
Kolkata: Doctors at NRS Medical College Hospital have given a fresh lease to a 14-year-old girl by removing 10 needles from her throat through an operation that lasted for more than three hours.
A team of doctors carried out the surgery on Tuesday and removed the needles. The patient, Aparupa Biswas, a student of class VIII in Krishnanagar Akshay Vidyapith had swallowed as many as 10 needles. She complained of pain following which her family members took her to a local doctor, who prescribed some medicine, but her condition did not improve. The family members initially thought that she might have caught cold.
The doctors are not yet sure as to how and why the girl had swallowed 10 needles. It is suspected that she might have been involved in black magic after she lost her elder brother three years ago. She had been under depression since the death of her brother.
The family members told the doctors that she preferred to stay inside her room as her elder brother's untimely death was a serious blow to the girl.
She was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital, a few days ago with throat pain. The family members consulted a local doctor but she was not cured, then she was taken to a city hospital after the girl fainted following pain in her throat. After she was admitted, the doctors performed an X-ray, revealing that she had several needles inside
her throat.
The doctors suspect that the patient did not swallow all the needles at a time but did it over a period of time. According to the hospital sources, all the needles have successfully been removed from the patient's throat and has been recovering well.
