NRS: Animal lovers, TV artistes to protest against nurses being allowed to join classes
Kolkata: Members of various animal lovers' organisations and television artistes from the state will hit the city's streets on Wednesday demanding severe punishment for the two nursing students who had allegedly killed 16 puppies inside NRS Medical College and Hospital campus few days ago.
TV artistes and animal activists on Tuesday expressed their wish to meet senior officials of the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC) in Salt Lake. A rally would be taken out from Karunamoyee More at around 12 pm on Wednesday and the animal lovers would march down the streets before meeting the WBNC officials.
Some of them on Tuesday also staged a demonstration outside the NRS protesting against the two nursing students who were allowed to take classes after allegedly committing the brutal crime.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that Moutusi Mondal and Soma Burman, the two nursing students from NRS Medical College and Hospital who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of 16 puppies, went back to their classes on Monday, a couple of days after they were granted bail by Sealdah Court. The WBNC that looks after nursing-related issues seemed to have no objection to their joining classes.
A senior official of the NRS Medical College and Hospital on Monday said they had submitted a report to the Swasthya Bhawan after carrying out a probe into the incident and it was the discretion of the West Bengal Nursing Council on taking the final call regarding their ban.
The hospital official also argued that the court has not imposed any restrictions on their attending classes.
However, the city-based animal lover and TV personalities are not ready to buy the logic put forward by the hospital authorities. TV actress Debolina Dutta said they have spoken to the hospital authorities demanding an explanation on how the two accused nursing students have been allowed to get back to their classes.
Dutta said the hospital authorities told them that they hardly had any role to play in this regard. She also urged all the conscience-stricken people to join their rally on Wednesday so that they can bring the perpetrators to book.
"We will go to every possible forum to fix accountability on the persons who brutally killed the pups. We would also like to see who gave them permission to join their classes," Dutta said.
