Now, govt's Sukanya to be introduced in 3 commissionerates

After its immense success in Kolkata, Chief Minister's dream project
Sukanya to provide self defence to girls is going to be introduced in Bidhannagar, Howrah and Barrackpore Commissionerates.
The Kolkata Police had introduced the project following directions of the Chief Minister. Besides giving a lesson on Taekwondo, Judo, Kick Boxing and Aikido to make girls from different schools self-reliant for their protection, the initiative has provided an
international platform to the girls as they have won five golds, two silvers and two bronze medals in Kick Boxing World Cup-2016 held in Russia in September.
Now, the same project is going to be started in the three commissionerates. At the initial stage, girl students from 25 schools from the three commissionerates will be given training. For example, 10 schools have been selected in Howrah and 40 students from each school in two batches will be trained in the first six months. With completion of their training, they will be getting a certificate.
Similarly, in the other two commissionerates as well, some schools have been selected for the first phase. Gradually, more number of girls from more schools will be brought under the project after the first six months.
On Tuesday, Surajit Kar Purakayastha, Director General of Police, will be inaugurating the project at Eco Park for all the three commissionerates. Commissioners of police along with other senior police officers from all the three commissionerates will also be present at the programme.
Santosh Pandey, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of Bidhannagar Commissionerate, said that around 500 girls from different schools will be present in the inaugural programme.
Training of the students will be taking place in their respective schools. The timing of the training will be finalised by the trainer to be provided by the police.
The Kolkata Police have already provided self defence training to more than 3,500 girls from different schools in the city since its inception. Later, some colleges had approached the Kolkata Police to provide same training to their students. So girls from some colleges were also trained.
The Chief Minister had received the first prize in United Nations Public Service Award for Asia Pacific for the Kanyashree Project that helped girls to carry on with their education and resulted in a decrease in the school dropout rate.
Banerjee's Sukanya project took the state to an international level when five girls from four schools and one college in the city were selected as members of 62-players' team that represented India in the Kick Boxing World Cup-2016 that was held in Russia in September 2016. They became successful in winning several medals including that of Gold.
