Now, control room set up to monitor patient referral cases

Kolkata: Chandrima Bhattacharya, minister of state for Health, at Nabanna on Friday said a control room has been set up at Swasthya Bhavan for state-wide monitoring of the cases in which patients are referred to other hospitals.

"The monitoring has ensured a considerable number of cases of reference to other hospitals."

She further said there are set of norms that need to be followed while referring a patient to another hospital.

A case of referral is initiated only when necessary infrastructure is available at the other

hospital.

But the reason behind referring a patient to another hospital needs to be mentioned before doing

the same.

Moreover, the same also has to be maintained in the referral register. Bhattacharya said infrastructure of the state-run hospitals has improved after several steps were taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and cooperation of hospital authorities have also helped in bringing down the rate of the cases of referring patients to another hospital.

In a bid to ensure further improvement in the state's Health sector, she mentioned that a decision to increase 100 beds in Contai Subdivisioanl Hospital has been taken and this will take the total number of beds to 300.

At the same time, 53 posts have been created for the state-run health units in Contai

sub-division. "Steps will also be taken for filling up the posts as early as possible," Bhattacharya said.
