Nor'wester likely to bring another thunderstorm to city, S Bengal districts today
Kolkata: The city and various South Bengal districts may witness a thunderstorm on Wednesday evening, due to the impact of Nor'wester. Some of the South Bengal districts have witnessed light rainfall accompanied with a strong breeze on Tuesday.
A MeT department official on Tuesday said that intermittent rains would start in several parts of South Bengal including Kolkata in the evening hours and the intensity of the rainfall may go up on Wednesday. However, during the day the humidity level in some districts may be on the higher side, giving a sense of discomfort to the people.
According to the prediction of the weather office, city dwellers as well as those in the districts may also witness a gusty wind accompanied by rains. A heavy thunderstorm has been predicted in the Western districts like Birbhum, West Midnapore and Purulia. East Midnapore and South 24-Parganas may also receive heavy rainfall, the weather office predicted.
The people may get some temporary comfort from the scorching summer heat as the temperature may slide down by a few notches following the rains. The weather condition may start improving in the city from Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that a thunderstorm had lashed various North Bengal districts on Tuesday morning, resulting in trees being uprooted. Due to the impact of the Nor'wester, thundershower took place in some parts of North Bengal, including Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The sky became overcast in several parts of South Bengal in the afternoon as well.
The mercury has started soaring in the past couple of days. On March 22, the city witnessed a sudden turn in the weather due to the advent of first Nor'wester of the season. The weather office prediction says that the maximum and minimum temperature will hover around 35 degree and 23 degree Celsius respectively, in the next few days. The temperature may see a sudden fall during night hours following the evening showers.
