North-West wind sweeps Bengal, winter tiptoes
Lowest temperature in S Bengal districts to hover around 17 to 18 degree Celsius
Kolkata: Temperature in the city plunged down as North-west wind brought winter chill into the state without any interruption.
City dwellers are already getting a sense of winter as the temperature has started going down.
According to the weather office prediction, the cold North-West wind will continue to sweep through the state in the next couple of days giving a feeling of winter cold in the state.
The Regional Meteorological Centre on Friday said that the lowest temperature in various South Bengal districts, including the city may hover between 17-18 degree Celsius in the next few days, while the highest temperature may be around 29-30 degree Celsius. People may feel the winter chill particularly in the early morning hours. The humidity level may slightly go up in the afternoon. There is no possibility of rainfall in state in the next couple of days.
The MeT office had earlier predicted that the city's temperature would go down due to the Western disturbances and excessive snow fall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
"The city's sky will remain clear as the day progresses. There will be mists in the atmosphere in the early morning hours which will disappear later in the day. People will witness a dip in the temperature in the late night and early morning hours. Strong breeze carrying the winter chill would be sweeping across various South Bengal districts in the morning," a weather official said.
Various North Bengal districts will however witness a thick mist in the morning. There is a prediction of a heavy snowfall in Kashmir in the next 24 hours which might bring make winter more chilly at various eastern states, including Bengal. The humidity level may be between 40-90 per cent in the city and various South Bengal districts during the day time.
The weather office predicted that the winter may set in during mid December in the state till then, the temperature is likely to fluctuate depending on the flow of North-West wind.
For the past couple of days the temperature had been dropping gradually after the weather system caused by cyclone 'Bulbul' ceased to have any impact in the state.
