Non-conventional energy to be utilised to generate power

Kolkata: In a unique initiative Cooch Behar Municipality has taken up a step to use non-conventional energy to generate power for itself. If successful, this can be a model for other municipalities as well.
The step may prove handy for the municipality in two ways. Firstly, the time-to-time collection of domestic wastes, garbage will help maintaining cleanliness. On the other hand, biogas can be produced from domestic wastes through a certain procedure.
The municipality will collect the wastes from each house under its jurisdiction.
A senior official of the municipality said that the new project will also help to clear various wastes which are often dumped by the side of the road.
The municipality has chalked out an elaborate scheme to generate renewable energy by utilising wastes. Kitchen wastes from households will be collected and converted into biogas energy.
According to a senior official of the municipality, all the vegetables and other household wastes will be collected and used through a proper mechanism to produce biogas.
A bio-digester will also be installed. After carrying out a thorough study, the municipality officials will set a target of producing a minimum quantity of energy through biomass.
