No-trust vote against Gangarampur civic body chairman on August 5
BALURGHAT: As per verdict of Calcutta High Court, a no-trust vote against Gangarampur civic body chairman Prasanta Mitra will take on Monday.
State ruling Trinamool Congress captured the power of Gangarampur municipality by winning all 18 seats. Mitra was elected as civic chief. He, however, was ousted from Trinamool after Lok Sabha poll for anti-party practice by district Trinamool president Arpita Ghosh as per direction of party supremo Mamata Banerjee.
Mitra's elder brother Biplab Mitra, former Trinamool district president, joined Saffron brigade and expelled from Trinamool for the same reason.
While Mitra was not ready to leave the power, 11 Trinamool councillors-led by the then vice-chairman Amalendu Sarkar called for a no-trust vote against him. Opposing the decision and as per legal right, Mitra had ousted Sarkar from his post and nominated Tulshi Prasad Choudhury as a new vice-chief. Both the followers of Mitra and Sarkar had appealed to High Court for a solution.
Following the appeal from both ends, the court had directed for a no-confidence vote on August 5 and at the same time issued an order to ensure security to all 18 councillors directing district administration and police. Recently, Mitra had installed CCTV cameras outside the houses of the councillors to keep an eye on them. Mitra had, however, said it was nothing but the security reasons.
