No respite from rain till Friday

Kolkata: There will be no relief from rain for the city dwellers in the next 48 hours as the Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore has predicted light to moderate rainfall in various parts of Kolkata.

People in the city and adjoining areas have been witnessing rainfall for the past few days. Heavy rainfall in some parts had led to waterlogging on Monday, giving a difficult time to the civic body.

According to a weather official, the condition will not improve before Friday, as the low pressure area created over Bay of Bengal will be causing the extra rain. It may be mentioned that a low pressure area formed over North Odisha and adjoining Bengal two days ago has been bringing moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of Bengal. The situation was further complicated due to the formation of another low pressure trough.

Four South Bengal districts like North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days, while the other South Bengal districts will also receive moderate rainfall. According to the weather office some North Bengal districts may also receive heavy rainfall in the next two days.

It may be stated that an alert has been issued to the fishermen in the coastal districts not to voyage into the sea as it may remain turbulent in the next two days.

The weather office said that the intensity of rainfall may be reduced from Friday as the low pressure area over Bay of Bengal has started moving towards West and North-West parts of the state.

North Eastern states are expected to see moderate rain in the next few days. Jharkhand and some parts of Bihar and Sikkim may also see light to moderate rain. There is also a prediction of isolated rainfall in the states like Odisha, parts of Chhattisgarh and North Telangana, weather experts said.
