No leaves to be granted on bandh days, says state govt

Kolkata: The state Finance department issued a notification making attendance in government offices mandatory for four days in the wake of the 48-hour general strike by different trade unions on January 8 and 9 respectively. No Casual Leave for absence either in the first half of the day or in the second on those days will be granted to the employees.

The state government has directed that employees would not only have to report to work on the two bandh days but also on the day preceding and following the bandh days, namely on January 7 and 10 respectively.

"All employees shall report for duty on the bandh dates. It has been decided that no Casual Leave for absence either in the first half of the day or in the second half or for the whole day nor any other leave shall be granted to any employee on the said dates. The employees who are on leave on January 4 shall have to report for duty on January 7," read the notification issued by state Additional Chief Secretary of Finance department H K Dwivedi.

Like earlier bandhs, it has been decided that absence of employees on those days will be treated as 'dies non' and no salary will be admissible unless such absence is covered by some grounds like hospitalisation of the employee, bereavement in the family, severe illness and absence continuing prior to January 4, employees who had been on Child Care Leave, Maternity Leave, Medical leave and Earned Leave sanctioned prior to January 4..

"It is mentioned here that dislocation/disruption of vehicular traffic will not be a reason for granting leave," the notification added.

The heads of offices will issue show-cause notices to the employees who remain absent on these days, asking him/her to explain why the action would not be taken for such unauthorised absence. Those who do not respond to the show-cause notice will be liable to disciplinary action.

The state Transport department held a meeting with the organisation of bus operators and assured them of compensation for the vehicles or persons in case of any mishap on the bandh days.
