The wife and other family members of Rajat Choudhury – the contractual bank employee who committed suicide last Saturday – demanded an inquiry headed by the Central Bureau of Investigation to look into the circumstances that led him to take the extreme step.
Kabita, Rajat's wife, had earlier levelled allegations of abetment to suicide against some of the bank officials and a local businessman who – according to her – were responsible for Rajat's death.
As there has been no major development into the inquiry of Rajat's death, his family members were not happy with the investigation undertaken by the local police. Kabita had gone to the local police station and talked to the police officers.
She wanted to know about the progress in the investigation and said that even six days after her husband's demise, no arrests or breakthrough was yet made in the case. Police, however, claimed that they have served notices to four persons in this connection.
In another development, senior officials of the bank have reportedly not been attending office since Wednesday. Having found no steps taken by the bank authorities as well, the victim's family members demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
It may be mentioned that the body of Rajat Chowdhury, an employee of Union Bank, was recovered from the railway tracks near Uluberia station early morning on February 11.
It was initially suspected that Chowdhury had committed suicide by throwing himself in front a running train, after he had been accused of exchanging old currency notes, nearly Rs 34 lakh in value, through his current account.
Before committing suicide, Rajat had posted a suicide note on social networking site, saying that some people forced him to exchange the old notes and later they lodged a police case against him. This, he said, prompted him to commit suicide.
A team of representatives from the bank visited the house of the victim on Sunday and talked to his wife.
They wanted to know from the family members if they could throw some light on the allegations levelled by Rajat that some of the bank employees, including some senior officials, had forced him to exchange the currency notes.
The family members urged the officials to start an independent inquiry into the incident and take action against the accused after they are found guilty.
Rajat's family said that they want a CBI prove in the case as the bank authorities seem to have not taken any action against the accused.
