Raipur cops get 5-day transit remand of Udayan

Udayan Das on Thursday was sent to transit remand for five days after being produced before the Bankura Court.

Raipur Police had prayed before the Court for his transit remand. Das had to be produced before the Raipur Court by February 20.

On Thursday, police brought Das to the Court around 11.30 am. He was first taken to the Third Judicial Magistrate Sangeeta Chattopadhyay, where he gave his statement under Section 164 of the CrPC. It lasted around one-and-a-half hour.

Around 2 pm, Das was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Arun Kumar Nandi. Ajit Akhuli, the counsel engaged by
Akansha's family, showed a photograph of Akansha to Das and asked him whether he identified her. He replied promptly, saying it was Akansha's photograph.

Das's counsel, Arup Bandyopadhyay, once again pleaded for his bail on Thursday. The CJM asked the counsel as to why he was pleading for bail. Before the counsel could give an answer, Das said that he did not want to plead bail.
