Policewomen in plain-clothes to maintain vigil on Valentine's Day

Women police personnel, in plain-clothes, will be tasked with catching eve-teasers in Salt Lake this Valentine's Day.

From Tuesday morning, policewomen will roam about the city and inspect the situation. From New Town to Salt Lake, policewomen will ensure strict vigilance all over the place. Meanwhile, a large contingent of police will be seen on roads to thwart illegal activities. Strict action will be taken against offenders.

There are many parks, hotel, restaurants, malls and places of amusement situated in Salt Lake and Rajarhat-New Town area. The footfall of these places crossed several thousands last festive season.

This Valentine's Day, the administration believes that footfall will cross all previous records.

"Heavy Radio Flying Squads will roam around the city. Strong surveillance will be carried out at places like City Centre Salt Lake and New Town Eco Park. Policewomen in plain-clothes will be there to catch the eve-teasers," said Sudhakar, DC Headquarters

On previous Valentine's Days, Salt Lake has recorded some incidents of eve-teasing in different areas. The incidents mostly took place after dark. Late at night, prostitutes and pimps were seen standing on the road for customers, to the annoyance of local residents.

This year, the Bidhannagar City Police has come up with a more stringent plan of action. They will not be disturbing couples on the street, but no illegal activities will be allowed.

Meanwhile, the city has geared up to celebrate Valentine's Day, with most malls, shopping outlets and eateries already decked up. They will also be guarded by private security guards and have strong CCTV surveillance.

Women police officers will ensure the safety of women in the road. Officers have discussed security issues with malls, shopping outlets and eateries and have been assured full support from the police. Most of these places are under the surveillance of CCTV.
