A senior professor of Sripat Singh College at Murshidabad's Ziagunge, was allegedly beaten up by some outsiders in the college a few days ago. Sukumar Mal, one among the senior teachers in the institution, was admitted in a hospital after the incident.
His condition was critical for a few days, but now he has recovered quite well from his injuries. The victim professor decided to inform the matter to state education department.
Taking to the reporters, Mal alleged, some outsiders have beaten him up. Those outsiders were encouraged by a certain senior teacher. Mal alleged that he wanted to reveal corruption cases in which the accused teacher was involved. The accused teacher assigned those outsiders to take the revenge against him.
While talking to the reporters, Mal said, he was one of the member of the committee of Netaji Subhas Open University Study Centre at the college. The accused teacher tried to move him out of the committee so that he could not get information about his dishonesty.
"I know the man is corrupted. He tried to move out me of the committee. He feared, I could divulge his corruption to the public," Mal alleged.
"He assigned an outsider, Suman Das, to assault me. Otherwise I could have brought out those financial irregularities which the accused teacher has done over the time," Mal further alleged.
Mal said that the condition of his health is fine now. He had chest pain and high blood pressure after the incident but now he is feeling better.
It may be recalled that state education minister Partha Chatterjee warned stringent action against any misdeed in colleges and universities. The state government took action against cases that took place in college campuses during recent student union elections across the state.
