Dacoits break open Raigunj bank grill, fail to loot valuables

Tension ran high at a branch of a nationalized bank at Raigung on Monday morning when the employees found that the grill of a window was lying broken.

Police said that the dacoits entered into the Mohonbati branch of a nationalized bank situated at Asha Talkies More in North Dinajpur late on Sunday night by breaking the window. They ransacked the bank but failed to open the vault.

The bank employees had informed the police after they found that the window was lying broken. Police reached the spot and

found that the miscreants failed to loot valuables as they were unable to break the vault of the bank. Deputy Superintendent of police also reached the spot for the sake of investigation.

After starting an investigation, police found that the miscreants took away the system device of the CCTV storage. As a result of this the investigation

was affected.

Police also said that the miscreants tried to break open the vault and hit the vault with a heavy substance.

But all their efforts were in vain as they failed to steal valuables from the vault.

The investigating officers also said that miscreants were 6-8 in number. They came on motorcycles late on Sunday night.

The police were facing slight difficulty in identifying the miscreants as the system device was stolen. Police were investigating if there were any security personnel in the bank at the time of the incident. Police have, however, started a thorough investigation in this regard.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that accused were the local criminals.

Some of the local residents alleged that the grill of the window was very thin as a result of which the miscreants could have easily broken it open. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.
