Islampur College scuffle: Former minister removed from GB

The former minister Abdul Karim Chowdhury has been removed from the post of the president of the Governing Body of Islampur College in North Dinajpur. The decision came after Thursday's incident in which a clash broke out between two factions of TMCP over students' union elections.

Allegations were raised that the clash had broke out between factions of the former minister Chowdhury and that of the sitting MLA Kanaia Agarwal. The situation had turned so worse that the police had to resort to lathi-charge and fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

When contacted, observer of Trinamool Congress for North Dinajpur district, Suvendu Adhikari said: "Strict and immediate steps have been taken. As a result, peace has been restored in the college on Friday. Both Chowdhury and Agarwal have been said that such things would not be tolerated."

He said: "A fact finding team has been constituted to ascertain the exact reason behind the trouble so that proper steps could be taken to avoid repetition of the incident. The fact finding team comprises minister Ghulam Rabbani and the district president of Trinamool Congress Amal Acharya."

Students were found attending classes in the college on Friday. At present, the process of filling up admission forms is taking place in the college.

The students filled up and submitted the forms without facing any inconvenience. However, there were some policemen posted outside the college premises as a proactive measure to avoid any deterioration of law and order situation.
