Police arrested a gang of burglars including their kingpin from Khardah early on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of investigators intercepted a speeding car near Ghola Bazar.
Nine burglars – Bhim Orao, Sariful Ali, Hohit Hossein, Banty Singh, Akbar Ali, Nasim Mistry, Bimal Singh, Montu Baidya and Amit Dutta Roy were arrested. Police said that Amit was the kingpin of the gang. Two fire weapons, two cartridges, two knives and two daggers were seized from them. Most of those gang members were residents of Titagarh, Khardah and Duttapukur.
Amit planned to loot his aunt's house at Ghola Bazar. He took a car along with his gang members there. Amit was informed that his aunt brought cash money and jewelleries from the bank. So it was a good opportunity to barge into her house.
The investigators were waiting for the gang to reach Ghola Bazar. They stopped the car there and the gang members tried to challenge the policemen by brandishing their guns. But policemen soon captured them.
The investigators, however, suspect that the gang was involved in another case of robbery, which took place in Palta. "The gang earlier looted a house at Palta. They tied up an elderly woman and looted her house. One person was arrested in that case. We interrogated the person. He told us about Amit Dutta Roy and his gang," said a police source.
It should be recalled that burglars broke into a house at Jadavpur, a few days ago. The gang looted valuables worth Rs 3.5 lakh. The modus operandi of that gang was quite similar to Amit Dutta Roy's gang.
