Infant's body recovered from pond in Uttar Dinajpur

Tension ran high at Uttar Rupahar area under Raiganj police station in Uttar Dinajpur after a body of an infant was found in a pond.

On Tuesday morning, a local resident Naibu Burman was fishing in his pond.

When he took the net out of the water, he found that the body of a baby girl was wrapped in it. Burman informed the matter to the local police station. The police reached the spot and sent the body for the post-mortem examination.

Police said that the preliminary investigation suggests that the girl was about 5-6 months old.

Police suspect that someone might have killed the baby and later dumped her body in the pond. Police are investigating if any of the villagers have committed the crime. They are yet to ascertain the cause behind the murder.

Police are also investigating if there was any trafficking racket involved in the incident.
