Trinamool Congress, on Monday, suspended Jhum Mukherjee, councillor of ward 10 of Serampore Municipality for anti-party activities and beating up an elderly person who happens to be a party worker for many years.
Tapan Dasgupta, president Hooghly district Congress and minister for Agriculture Marketing said party would not spare anyone involved in anti-party activities and group politics. "It is a government of Ma, Mati Manus and action will taken against any leader or worker who will consider himself or herself bigger than the party," he said.
The decision to suspend her was taken from the highest level of party's leadership. It may be recalled that party supremo Mamata Banerjee had earlier warned party workers not to indulge in factionalism and threatened to take stern action against them.
Mukherjee, on Monday, beat up the man who belongs to her opposite camp. The person has been admitted to the hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. For quite some time, clashes between two groups of Trinamool supporters have become frequent in Serampore.
One group is led by Mukherjee. Flouting prohibition order under section 144 CrPC, she had entered Serampore College where student election was going on. Not only did she threatened SFI supporters, she also threatened Trinamool workers and told them that her panel would come to power.
Party workers were fed up with her "arrogance and adamant attitude." Earlier also, she had been cautioned by district leadership but their words of caution did not have any impact and she went ahead with group politics.
Party leaders said Mamata Banerjee had over and again urged party workers to give up factionalism and work unitedly as the panchayat election was coming. But despite warnings, some leaders have refused to give up factional politics. It may be mentioned that despite Trinamool's tremendous success in 2016 Assembly election, nine ministers lost due to factionalism.
